The U.S. needs to get the dollar signs out of their eyes when they look at China. They are playing us beautifully for their benefit. We keep on making deals that end up costing us money with the hopes of establishing a foothold in the Chinese market and I am convinced that there will never be a meaningful payoff using these tactics. I am certain that any deals that were cut by the US Gov't have similar motivations to those of corporations.

I really worry about American naivete when dealing with Asian companies and governments. They know how to play competing businesses off each other like no other. I believe that it is imperative for American businesses to look at individual deals and say "is this deal profitable". If it isn't, then American businesses need to learn to walk away. If we Americans don't wake up to the competitive environment that they are in, we are going to get our asses kicked severely. (figuratively speaking).

And this isn't a criticism of China or Japan or Korea. In a way, it is a bit of a compliment.
