actually, that ain't so bad. We send them worthless pieces of paper (that are getting more and more worthless everyday) and we get real product in return. Not a bad deal at all:-)

My concern is really centered around the fact that American businesses are willing to do business at a loss because of the "promise" of bigger profits down the line. The thing is, I have never seen a contract negotiated with a Chinese customer where a discount level isn't guaranteed for 3-5 years. And usually by then, they are done buying.

When I was competing against CSCO, I saw them discount against us up to 92%. Back then, my boss was adamant about not giving business away, but he would have me push the discount levels to make sure that CSCO couldn't make any money on the deal.
