And of course you know all about "the French view". My views are not all that different from those of Italians, English (yes, believe it), Spanish, etc.
We can just call it the "Euro" view, it you want.
That is news to me
It was obvious from your first post that you wouldn't know the "Enlightenment" if it walked up and bit you on the rear. Individualism, as we know it here, has never made it in Europe. In spite of the Collectivism, the Euros still have a class system, and tend to "Kow Tow" to their perceived superiors. Pity.
"USA runs the world" is why Americans are resented.
911 has made it impossible to be humble any more. Bush was perfectly content to be a "Paleolconservative" President, and pursue an Isolationist course, but the Muslims roused a sleeping giant.
The Euros, like the Greeks during the rise of Rome, think they should be running things because of the alleged superiority of them and their culture. But the Americans, like the Romans before them, are in the drivers seat. If the Euros had not been so obvious about their contempt for us, we might have been nicer about the way we are doing things. But they were not, so we have developed an "It's good to be King" attitude, and are taking care of business.
I did not "need to" either, but I did. What does that tell you, Bill?
It was probably for the same reason as most others. You found it "profitable" to learn English. (Profit: "Moral Increase in Happiness.")
I have a term for you as well.
Now, now. Be nice. :>) |
