Speaking of odor and English as a third language..

Wife and I were walking down the street somewhere when she looked intently at me and asked, "Do you smell bad?" I paused and asked sheepishly, "Do I?" She was obviously frustrated with the fact that I didn't understand her question, and answered animatedly, "No! That restaurant across the street. They cook something smell very bad!"

Whew! Sure had me scared.
