The more enlightening question I think is why did AMAT and other stocks drop so hard since the start of December, and are those factors still on-going with the same intensity ?

And the answer is that saber-rattling did that trick. Remember the "material breach" phrase that was was getting repeated more often than a top 40's hit ? Well, each time they said it, AMAT dropped a penny. Till they moved on to something else. So for each hour the media doesn't mention it, AMAT will go up one penny. Until Jan 20.
