the one thing that concerns me is that the VP of engineering and other execs left or were forced out after the rhapsody purchase. The VP and CTO would have been involved in the technology evaluation of Rhapsody. I need to hear that the acquisition makes technical sense from present or potential customers and that the acquisition was not a political decision. I have personally been involved in more than one acquisition that was done or not done for political reasons.

Interesting. My read on the rhapsody acq was completely different. I was thinking the new product team screwed up and missed a bunch of dates at brcd, the CEO and board were fed up and forced this acq. The thing I keep reading in B&S (biased I know) is that brcd has a proprietary solution of some sort. Rhapsody solves that it looks like, it is a more standard/open solution, no?

Brocade seems to have Crosspoint and Bay as VCs, Rhapsody has Accel, Oracle (interesting since Larry is funding that Pillar systems too) and Sequoia... so not the same VCs it looks like... that would have been one incentive for a political buyout if they had the same VCs/BOD and Rhapsody was failing.

Either way, forced acquisition or no- this uncertainty as to why this was done is priced in the stock, imo. Also in this climate BRCD can attract top engineering talent from pretty much anywhere so when the CTO departure was announced I thought it was bad but not unmanageable.

Right now I am waiting for the rhap acquisition to close and for brcd warning season to pass - probably no warning this or next week means they bring in that 125mm revs they promised us last qtr. These are the 2 things depressing the stock, if we can get through this then I think brcd may climb to 6 short term? But I'm LTBH on this one.
