| Gee, we are getting down to something workably close, yes! That is always a relief to me. My main enemies are third trimester abortions and, overall, a too liberal abortion regime, which does not encourage moral seriousness about the decision, but accepts that any old reason, however frivolous, is reason enough. I think that the penalties for the first trimester should not fall on the woman, but on the doctor; that they should include a fine; and that several citations should result in one's medical license being pulled. This would permit a "gray market" for those whose conscience dictates an abortion, superior to the old black market, making allowances for the controversy surrounding the matter, but would register society's disapproval of the act. The second trimester, when there is an obvious human form, and the main consideration is viability, I think should be treated more harshly, by subjecting the woman seeking the abortion to a fine, and immediately pulling the doctor's license, with the possibility of reinstatement after several years. Only with the last trimester would I foresee jail time for both parties, and vigorous enforcement....... |
