Rosemary,

I like the 10 reasons about not shorting Dell too; it is worthy
of an entry for Letterman's top ten list.

Thanks for the rundown on the splits. There are 4 splits (including
this one). The first two are too far away (first one being in
1992). So no meaning to discuss that. The most recent one (dec.
1996) you discussed is interesting. To add some quantitative
info for the split: It went down immediately after the split,
but slowly over a week with decreasing volume, hit 11% drop,
back up and down again 15% from split high. It stayed there
for a week (I think 1-2-97) and then took off for the run of
the year or the run of the decade ...

I did some rough study about stocks after splits. The results
are not conclusive: sometimes it went up and sometims it went
down. But almost all run up before the splits, and the
probability of going down for high flyers after splits is higher
than going up. So it is not a sure way to profit either way.

have a good weekend,

-Keith
