I know... Our parents ALL must have played canasta...I was pretty young then, but remember they play piniccio (??can't spell it right), had a canasta club, and later in life belonged to a wonderful group called 30 Club....they went to a wonderful dinner and semi formal and formal dances several times a year with a full dance band...

TV was here and fairly new...but still, they remained active in their groups, and had lots of fun...my sisters and I used to listen from upstairs to all the laughing and fun they had...We didn't like the cigarette smoke though....Even in those days, they dressed up, even if it was just to someone's house....Dad always wore a tie....

They made their own good times, and had wonderful friends around them...they didn't have lots of money, but did have some good fun and friends...something that the younger folks would be wise to think about.
