I suppose much of what we'll learn on what can or cannot be verified will come from the UN inspection team communicating specifically with past and current Iraqi scientists.

I've seen several former Iraqi scientists and generals interviewed on the various tv networks. And that group of former Iraqis certainly know the names of whose doing what kind of work in Iraq.

For sure, becoming a scientist who can work with weapons of mass destruction or a general capable of using such devices is not something that can be accomplished in the few months of time Saddam had to hide weapons.

I think that if nothing shows up from the inspections themselves and nothing can be ascertained from examining the scientists, Bush will have a real problem signing on nations to go to war with him. I think going to war these days requires not only a sound military, but good public relations.

More importantly, any nation heading into war must be a nation of people who know exactly why sons and daughters are moving into war. Perhaps this awareness will change and going to war with Iraq will become more popular. But, presently, I don't see the justification once people seriously begin considering the consequences.
