GOP deflection/diversion #2 - Democrats are racist. Such BS.
The GOP thinks if they repeat something enough it becomes true. To hide their own embarassing Lott affair and its racist subtones, they went on attack of old Dixie Democrats from 50 years ago to "prove" democrats are just as racist, though they dont admit being racist themselves of course. They even found one 80 year old Senator Byrd who once upon a time 50 years ago was in the KKK. AT that time I suppose the KKK was about the same as Strom Thurmond's Dixie party, standing for the same thing. Byrd ought to retire anyway, he's senile, but that's the only guy they could find currently in the Dem party who was "racist" and it was 50 years ago when he was. Like saying Strom Thurmond is STILL a segregationalist. Civil Rights was championed by democrats and moderate Republicans in the 60's. Those moderate Republicans are now no longer, and the "racist democrats" from Dixie are now Republicans thanks to the GOP's southern strategy. The GOP courted and invited in all those southern conservative with at least closet racist policies and there are few if any of them left in the Democratic Party. Bush still refuses to sign hate crimes and is proud of having put to death many-many blacks including a few retarded ones in Texas. His policies are not racist per se, but when he goes to Bob Jones University and talks the talk, the code language, he's playing to what's left of the racists in this country. And most blacks know it. The GOP has JC Watts and Larry elder now trying to convert blacks to the GOP but their rhetoric is hollow and Elder can only say we should all have an equal chance to make it on our own merit. Fine, I agree, but the many blacks who feel left out and kept down are not going to buy Elder's argument, and even Colin Powell and Condi Rice are products of policies which the GOP is against. Bottomline, if you're black in this country you dont want to get the only chocolate at the marshmallow factory unless you're a contrarian opportunist, which some are. It's easy to be hired as the token black, but you have to be aware that you could be aiding the "enemy". Blacks can join any party they like, so look ayt the evidence. 90% vote for Gore, 90%. So if the Dems are racists then blacks must either be blind and stupid or there must be some secret conspiracy by liberals to "fool" them. Neither is true. Liberals I know care deeply about civil rights and some have given of themselves to help minorities. You wont find much of that on the other side of the aisle. |
