During WWII, it wasn't as important to have all the underground forces working together as it may seem at first look. It was important for de Gaulle to "harness" them a bit, in an attempt to avoid a Dakar type clash after the victory.

How could one possibly expect the communist underground forces to ally with the far right anti Nazi (they existed too), or pure Jewish underground units. As long as all were working for/under the UK/BBC rules, it was fair enough.

In order to put it all under perspective, the Communists underground was credited with ten thousand train derailments. Huge, hé!

Not that it changed the picture much. If at all...
