The Chromatic's Mpact chip has at least three licensees: Toshiba, LG Semicon and SGSTHomson (?).

THe Mpact/3000 media processor has the following capabilities:

(1) Video: MPEG-1 & MPEG-2 decode; and MPEG-1 encode.
(2) 2 D graphics: Full VGA, SVGA support, acceleration of video playback and GUI through GDI, DirectDraw.
(3) 3D graphics: Full 3D acceleration through Direct3D
(4) Digital audio: Industry-standard Sound card compatibility, 3D audio (SRS) and 3D positional audio effects (DirectSound), DOlby AC-3 and MPEG-1 audio and MIDI, Wavetable and Waveguide synthesis.
(5) Fax / Modem : Data up to 33.6kbps (V.34bis), fax up to 14.4 kbps (V.17) and DSVD.
(6)Telephony: Full-duplex speakerphone, Voicemail and caller ID.
(7) Videophone: H.324 over POTS and H.320 over ISDN.

Optimized real-time multitasking kernel executes multiple Mpact mediaware modules con-currently in a small footprint 240-pin PQFP with 3.3V CMOS process.

This chip as it stands now, is DVD capable. It should pose a serious threat to the Ziva chip from C-Cube. The chip is quoting under $30 for key customers with virtually free standard sets of firmware. But Chromatics will charge more if you want a customized set of firmware.
