I think that I made about $500 on dividends last year. If he really wanted to do a tax savings, it would be on cap gains. Since taxation on dividends is double taxation, it should be a no brainer to remove those. To be honest, I don't see that as a big benefit from this.

IMO, the investors being unwilling to put money in the market is *not* the problem. It is a symptom to a number of problems. And people seem to forget that the slide in the market started crashing long before the corporate malfeasance came to light. The bear market exposed a bunch of cockroaches, but again, they are more of a symptom of an environment that is ripe for breeding cockroaches than the problem itself.
