By 2010 the world will be much different.

Yes, I kept seeing that argument. And I saw that Hubbert's credibility rested on his call in the 50s about the oil shortages of the early 70s. And I could see that the author of the Hubbert's Peak book saw himself as using the same methods to come up with the 2010 date. I could simply never get my head around the data sufficiently well to decide just what I thought of the argument.

I can see two ways I could be helped. Well, besides go spend a couple of weeks breaking down the argument in the book, which I don't plan to do. Too much else to do right now, including moan and groan about the Giants' loss today. One, someone could post some sort of point about it which would help convince me. Wish I could say what that would be but I'm so dumb here I don't even know the right questions to ask. Or, second, I could be directed to some recognized authority, someone I might recognize as an authority on the issue, who had written some observations about the theory.

If the argument is correct, you are right. Life changes dramatically sometime in the next ten years or so, regardless of these issues we are discussing here.
