just can't get a handle on this objection, Steven. I see it posted by a lot of people, and I don't understand it. What kind of "Central Planning" for a Democracy do we need? We have got the dissidents together for conferences on how to run the country when we take it over.

Conferences? Really? Well, then we must be on top of it, and I should withdraw all my objections.

Joking aside, does anyone have any idea what emerged from those conferences? Do "the dissidents" with whom we are conferring have any support of any constituency in Iraq? Have they any agenda beyond "I wanna be next"? Does anybody have any clear idea of what we are going to do when we take over?

I really don't know what else you would have us do.

At the very least, I think we need to decide whether we intend to install a new government and pull out, or whether we plan an extended period of occupation under US or UN control. More on this in the next post - too much, probably, but it's a subject on which much could be written.
