Gold at $352 currently...problem with taxing energy use, especially fossil fuels, is it is very closely connected to economic activity - the tax becomes a direct drag on the economy. One of the reasons for favoring "sin" taxes on things like tobacco, alcohol, luxury goods, resturant meals, etc. even though those taxes are more difficult to collect.
