I am not sure what you mean by a packet system network but I know that all of the netphones now require that both users have the
same exact equipment. IDT uses their software to transverse the Internet and ring a local server/phone in say Italy.Since only one
of the users needs their netphone setup it would seem to me that
relatively speaking only 50% of thre bandwidth on the Internet
would be used and that is only if the Internet is still needed after
both parties are hooked up. I know that IDT has an LD setup now where
you call a server and then they ring you back after the connection is made thereby costing you less.
