In fact, the IP-based iSCSI (SCSI over IP) standard (which should receive official approval as a standard from the Internet Engineering Task Force in February 2003) creates the option of building a cheap, Ethernet-based storage area network without Fibre Channel... And they’ll have plenty of equipment options to choose from, with the likes of Adaptec, Cisco Systems, Emulex, IBM, McDATA, and QLogic rolling out switches, routers and adapters throughout the year.
