Perhaps one of the "Libertarians" on this thread has the time to explain to you why Mafia rules are not a desirable social system.

The mafia may also think that way but the idea of taking responsibility to clean up the mess you created hardly originated with them. But even if you reject that idea the more important point was that the fact that we sold some weapons to Iraq, while relevant if you want to look in to our past mistakes to avoid them in the future and perhaps even assign blame, is irrelevant to the question of if and how we should respond to the danger from those weapons. If dealing with weapons that Iraq developed themselves or which they got from third parties by using force against Iraq is ok, then using the same force against the threat of weapons they got from us is ok. In any case the vast majority of Iraqi weapons and weapons making capability, both for conventional weapons and WMD came from sources other then the US.
