If so, he could have downed the ball by taking a knee, then calling time out.

The left hook snap was even worse, actually, and the holder did a phenomenal job of grabbing the ball and rotating it, but I think the kicker saw the snap (which was nearly directly to him rather than the holder) and momentarily lost his concentration.
