I knew a young girl about 15 years ago who went around calling other people a "retard." She also cocked her arm up and made a face when she did this to imply the person had cerebral palsey.

I found this curious since I knew that she was a typical teenager except that her IQ was only about 50 or 60. So, I payed attention to how other people interacted with her. I noticed, sadly, that she was constantly being made fun of and being called a "retard" and that the cocked arm gesture was being made at her a lot.

I concluded from my observations that she was convinced that this was normal behavior and that we all go around calling each other "a retard" all the time.
