The margins were < 0 (Intel lost money). The goal is to raise it to 0. The company doesn't have confidence that it can be done, so management has reduced the exposure to the MB business.

The goal of the company is to increase the percentage of Intel silicon in a PC. This would be much easier to accomplish if it had a major share of the MB business. Failure to break even is making that goal more elusive.
