PEBBLE BEACH, Calif.--The rapid shift towards new chip technologies will propel the wafer-fab materials market in 2003, especially photomasks, silicon wafers, specialty gases and other products.
The worldwide wafer-fab materials market is expected to reach $14.68 billion in 2003, up 11.6% over 2002, said Dan Tracy, who tracks the market for the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) trade group in San Jose, at the Industry Strategy Symposium (ISS) here today. Sponsored by SEMI, ISS runs from Jan. 5-8 in Pebble Beach.
In 2002, the market grew by a modest 5.9% to $13.14 billion, Tracy said. In the future, however, it is also expected to jump 12.5% to $16.51 billion in 2004, and grow by 7% to $17.67 billion in 2005, he said.
Silicon wafers are the largest market in this sector. This market is expected to grow from $5.28 billion in 2001, to $5.79 billion in 2002, to $6.46 billion in 2003, to $7.25 billion in 2004, to $7.54 billion in 2005, according to SEMI.
Photomasks are the second largest market. It fell from $2.19 billion in 2001, to $2.12 billion in 2002, according to SEMI. But it is expected to rebound and grow from $2.34 billion in 2003, to $2.77 billion in 2004, to $3.14 billion in 2005, according to SEMI.
Specialty gases are in third place, growing from $1.81 billion in 2001, to $1.83 billion in 2002, to $2.02 billion in 2003, to $2.18 billion in 2004, to $2.32 billion in 2005, it said. |
