The ACLU opposes the current version of campaign finance reform, as being in violation of the First Amendment. I agree with it on that score.

The allegations surrounding Whitewater were not at all trivial. If you think they were trivial, perhaps you think Spiro Agnew was railroaded into resigning for minor corruption as governor? Anyway, the issue of perjury came to light due to Linda Tripp's tapes, and had to be addressed. Additionally, it offered an opportunity to try to crack other cover ups, by leveraging possible participants, like Vernon Jordan.

There is no sense in blaming Starr for doing his job. If there were a problem, it was created by the statute itself, giving the Office of the Independent Counsel unlimited resources to go after targets.........
