Excellent essay...

I'd like to see a rebuttle to that from the right -- it would be difficult to do much besides pick nits.

Nevermind technology of modern life, the Hitler and Eisenhower quotes make it clear that we've been at this junction before in history, this is nothing new, and we are clearly running towards disaster.

I'd like to hear defenders of the Bush position describe what the goal is, the hoped-for scenario for the next 6 years, what the economy, military, terrorism, and foreign affairs *should* look like, as a result of current policies.

So far it's just "it's unending war, but that's not so bad, we can all live with that", from Rumsfeld, who's the only character extemporaneous enough to comment about the future. The rest are simply hiding out under meaningless packaged rhetoric.
