Prosperity really is right around the corner...

The Bush administration has discontinued the government's
monthly report on mass layoffs. The report, prepared by
the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics had
served as a pulse reading of corporate America's financial
health since 1995. No more. In these times of renewed
prosperity, Washington has determined that the American
people have no real need to know how many mass layoffs
are made each month. The last report, issued on Christmas
Eve with statistics for November, showed that U.S.
companies laid off more than 240,000 workers in 2,150
mass layoffs.
