OT: Actually, I was discussing the question of a draft this morning with some associates..

We all seemed to agree that there should be a mandatory service obligation for all US citizens at age 18. It could either be military service for 2 years (which educational benefits upon successful completion), Peace Corps, or a form of domestic CCC program where trained professionals, upon completion of college or training, are assigned to public works.

I personally think Rangel, which whom I don't much in common politically or ideologically, is playing a "no-brainer" here knowing that it would be hard to pass such a law.. Thus, he can play "class warfare"..

So while I believe it's the right thing and I hope a mandatory national service act is implemented someday, I give Rangel little credibility for being other than a race-baiter..
