I think the possibility of Iraq war is quite remote now.

If it was ever more than window dressing anyway.

There are very strong forces weighing against it. Some:

First, Bush is heavily poll driven and war without a smoking gun is unlikely to be supported by that many Americans. Many are overconfident by the technological prowess of the military and its precision bombing. But
they'll want a well defined war with a clear objective
if they're to swallow it.

Major events like the election debacle, (the soccer championships cost the European economy an estimated 50 billion Euros. soccer has nothing to do with the other events, just an example of the cost) and 9/11 are a huge drag on economic activity. These are major TV shows that are milked to extremes and people hang over it. Chances are that an Iraq war would be the mommy of TV spectacles not least cosidering the possibility of terror on the home front. You have seen what havoc a single sniper can cause.

Bush was finally forced to change the subject. It's the economy. Many huge issues are facing this dead duck administration. So, wars are off to the back burner.

But he can always come out of this all just fine. Who's
gonna dislike a man of peace?
