My impression is that every place you see a double tax, you see social engineering.

Taxing corporate profits as well as dividends isn't the most egregious example of double tax, IMO.

I nominate death taxes. The dead guy pays income tax during his life, and is liable for income tax due even after he is dead, but then the Treasury takes a second bite before the heirs get it?

Why?

Because people start screaming about how it's unfair for someone to be rich just because his father was rich.
