man, you needn't remind me about 1969 <ng>. i grew up a Cubs fan; i watched all the games on WGN (after home-schooling was over <g>) in the afternoon, with Jack Brickhouse doing the play-by-play. my mom kept score of EVERY game, on a yellow legal pad. those 1am nights when they were playing on the left coast were tough.

since misery loves company, the Red Sox were my AL team; Cubs fans obviously have a special understanding of the anguish suffered by the Sox. since i moved to Boston i have become completely obsessed w/ the Sox, and regrettably have let my old allegiance to the Cubbies fade away.

what a team that 1969 Cubs team was. Hundley, Banks, Beckert, Kessinger, Santo, Williams, Hickman. Fergie, Bill Hands, Holtzman and Selma on the mound. Regan closing. i remember like it was yesterday my dad just DYING as the Phillies lost one game after another in September 1964 to blow the pennant, and not understanding what was going on. and then i got my turn in '69. must be what Global Crossing longs felt like <g>.

SOMEday they'll win it....
<edit> though i guess not this year, as it now looks like we won't get Colon....

Cheers
