Telos, Putian Demo 3GPP R5
01.09.03
BEIJING -- TELOS Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of next generation wireless telecommunications networks, and PUTIAN Institute of Technology, the R&D arm of CHINA PUTIAN --- the largest telecom manufacturer in China, announced today that on December 30, 2002, the two companies demonstrated a 3G SGSN (Serving GPRS Support Node) using 3GPP Release 5 technology. The TELOS and PUTIAN partnership will be the first to bring the R5 next generation "All-IP" (Internet Protocol) wireless network with its extensive, feature-rich voice, data and multimedia services to market.
While other 3G vendors are offering R99 network architecture where voice services are still circuit based, TELOS and PUTIAN are at the forefront of 3GPP R5 technology development for an All-IP, voice and data next generation wireless network.
"TELOS has already commercially deployed 3GPP R4 wireless networks. However, this demonstration proves that global 3G operators now have the option to migrate directly to an All-IP R5 solution bypassing the need to invest first in the R99 infrastructure," said Jack Mar, President and CEO of TELOS Technology. "With the combined leadership, vision, and technical competencies of our two companies, we are leading the industry."
"This is an extremely important development for CHINA PUTIAN," said Dr. Xiong Qiang Tao, Vice President of CHINA PUTIAN Corporation and President of the PUTIAN Institute of Technology. "China is our focus and the world’s largest market with over 200 million wireless subscribers. The potential for 3G wireless in China is immense, and is driving much of the growth for global wireless services. The strategy with the PUTIAN-TELOS partnership is to lead the industry in the deployment of the 3G All-IP network solution."

LOL!
"..this demonstration proves that global 3G operators now have the option to migrate directly to an All-IP R5 solution bypassing the need to invest first in the R99 infrastructure.."
ROTFLMAO!
With Release 99 in the toilet, perhaps 3GSM carriers will put 3G on the shelf for years and pray that real-world technology will catch up with speculative Release 5 specifications...
Oops! Then again, what is the foundation reference specification for all advanced 3GPP UMTS releases - including Release 5?
You guessed it - buggy old Release 99.
What a world. |
