Well, I don't have that awful feeling I had 1965-1972, but maybe that is because at that time I was a lot closer than Shrub ever got to being drafted for Vietnam. Maybe some time I will post the charade of my physical exam at the Boston Army Base. They were'nt really checking anything. They were just sending warm bodies through lines and out the other end marked "1-A." The State of North Carolina saved my ass. Said I was an "essential employee." Today, anyone who is going into any fighting most likely really wants to do it.

Also, I don't think we are being lied to, to the same extent as we were about the Gulf of Tonkin thing. I never had anything against any North Vietnamese (indeed I admired Uncle Ho), but I do think Saddam is an evil monster.

But I think today the Big Lie is the economy. I was extremely skeptical of the stock markets of the later 1960s, trying in vain to get my parents out. What's been going on since about 1995 in this country is much worse. Happily there is no Selective Service that forced me to buy dot.com stocks to make the world safe for plutocracy.

Hey: I claim copyright on that. I just made it up. MAKE THE WORLD SAFE FOR PLUTOCRACY

Now I am checking the Internet to see how unoriginal I am!
