A full SUV (8) getting 16mpg is equal to a full Honda Civic (4) getting 32 mpg. The more inclusive, "When you ride alone, you ride with Osama" has been proposed by Bill Maher. Anyone ride alone?....Probably everyone does at some given point of the day. I think riding in a limo constitutes riding alone as does having a child or blind adult as a passenger. Transporting them will never keep another car off the road.

Many people own SUVs or pick-em-ups because they serve several purposes, thus they are an economic choice that saves other resources and materials that would have gone to having 2 or more vehicles.
