The mere fact that media owners "strive for profit" is itself evidence that they have a product to sell and thus they are constantly seeking eyeballs and assessing their market. If the media were actually as liberal as you seem to think they are, and if the market was truly as conservative as you think it should be, many of these organs would have gone under long ago. So either you are wrong about the market, or you are wrong about the media, because regardless of the times, to a certain extent they have to reflect their times, avoid extreme positions or face declining revenue, falling stock prices and unhappy shareholders. I don't know where you get the idea that journalists run the company, regardless of where they came from. It's the MBAs.
