ESS Technology Introduces High-Quality Digital Photo, Music and Video Playback Solutions
FREMONT, Calif., Jan. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ESS Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ESST - News), a leading provider of silicon solutions for digital video and digital home entertainment systems, announced today that the company has begun shipping its new digital photo, audio and video decoder, the ES6420 series, to major consumer electronics manufacturers. With this new Digital Media Player (DMP) technology, inexpensive consumer devices that play digital multimedia content from flash memory cards can be quickly and easily brought to market.
Digital content creation is growing rapidly with the adoption of digital cameras, digital camcorders, cellular phones, photo printers, multimedia TV systems, memory card readers, PDAs and LCD TVs by the consumer. As the demand for digital photography and digital audio increases, ESS enabled products will be able to view, play and manipulate this digital content in simple to use, cost-effective consumer devices. With the ES6420 (DMP) enabled product, the viewing and playing of this digital content has never been easier.

ESS's new ES6420 product is a single chip solution that provides high performance multi-format decoding and both high-quality digital and analog video and audio outputs. The ES6420 decoder supports a digital interface that connects to flash memory cards such as Memory Stick, Compact Flash, Smart Media, Multi-Media Card, or Secure Digital for viewing JPEG digital photos taken from digital cameras, listening to MP3 and WMA digital audio downloaded from the Internet, and watching MPEG1/MPEG4/motion JPEG digital movies captured from digital cameras. Combining digital video and digital audio with the ESS Music Slideshow(TM) application, the ES6420 moves presentations and slide shows into a new class of entertainment.
The ES6420 decoder also integrates an On-Screen Display (OSD) controller and a TV-encoder for video output. In addition, the ES6420 includes IDE and USB interfaces for hard disk drive support to add storage capacity for digital photos, digital music, and digital movies. This also allows for data file transfer between the hard disk drive on the ES6420 enabled device and a PC.
