What I was trying to get at is that, though I don't much like Clinton, I believe that he had a nominal contribution to the economic situation. I believe that the Fed had a much bigger role, but even without the Feds loose money policy, I suspect that we would have had a bubble of some sort.

Personally, I think that the smartest thing that the Republicans could have done was to throw the election. Let a Democrat win so that there would be an absolute perception that the democrats were at fault for the economic situation. But again, this is because I believe that there is nothing that could be done to stop the deflating of the bubble, regardless of who is in the whitehouse.
