Dividends

Like you, I am in favor of the rule changes regarding dividends. However, my first interjection on to this board was to note that there are a number of tech companies who are cash rich who might be able to pay a dividend, but they are cash rich not because the businesses have performed so fantastically, but rather because shareholders have paid so much capital in to these companies.

The reception by TechNet, a prominent tech lobby group, to the proposed rule change on taxation of dividends, is luke warm. And some companies like Cisco are claiming that buying back stock is a more efficient use of capital. But imo, Cisco's stock buybacks have everything to do with stock options and nothing to do with efficient use of capital.
