but you don't consider sales taxes, property taxes, FICA taxes, other levies, etc., etc., apparently only (this must be deduced from the construction of your argument, since it is left unsaid) some unstated kind of income tax which ignores all the loopholes, special tax credits, and other kinds of special interest deductions and favors unfortunately present in 'our' tax system.

We were discussing this a couple of days ago. The way I read it, it does not matter about loopholes deductions and everything else.
What the story is talking about is the source of the government's money from income tax. It doesn't discuss that the richest may only pay 5% of their income, or that those at the bottom pay a higher percentage of their income to taxes. It is saying that $59 out of $100 comes from the wealthiest and so on down the line.
So it's not so imaginary.
