Most of the state's income here is VAT. The Prince also owns Societe de Bains de Mer which owns the Casinos, Hotel de Paris, Hotel Hermitage, and gets the revenues from the Formula 1/Grand Prix every year. Besides, it does not take much to keep a country of 1.9 km sq area in very well protected, pristine condition (flowers on the streets, streets washed with soap water in the mornings and all).

In any case, I like the VAT taxation here, which means you are taxed on what you spend rather than what you earn. Also, it means the tourists who flock in hoards in summer get to pay for the nuisance they cause <g>
