There are exceptions to the principle of honesty. They ought to be very narrow.

I am not very concerned with little social anomalies such as you sight. My only point had to do with elaborate social rituals versus streamlining, which is conducive to social mobility, and helps to cure the meanness of snobbery.

Your citation of the OED is very amusing. It has almost nothing to do with historical aristocracy, but it is a good joke.........
