David, here's a small sign of the environmental irony among the "elite."

There is an annual show of model homes here in Portland (and one like it in Seattle) called the "Street of Dreams." Each home is on the order of $800K-$1.5M, so you can imagine how luxurious and lavish each home is.

One of them was advertised as "Earth-friendly," meaning that it had "energy-efficient" appliances, recycle-friendly building materials (or whatever), and a construction that saves in utility bills. Of course, you know what kind of model car was parked in the driveway? That's right, an SUV. ;-)

That's a microcosm of mainstream environmentalism. People don't mind giving token acceptance to environmental issues, but when it comes to real sacrifices, they balk. And the rich hypocrites will continue to ride around in their limos or stretch SUVs, or even fly their private jets (cough cough John Travolta, cough cough), while giving lip service to whatever makes them feel like an "activist."
