Business and ethics are mutually exclusive or at least the co-existence of the two is very inconvenient. Work is similar. Ethics can be a burden. If one means that it is ethical to work hard, one must realize that this is a management ethic, not a labour ethic. It only becomes a desirable characteristic where the increase in labour results in an increase in return. Otherwise it is a misplaced ethic, as a principle that works against the holder of it, has no use.

Of all people, I thought you lived by that principle and knew it chapter and worse.
