Re: The UN Cease Fire Resolution 678 (chapter seven) [Yes, jlallen, you were in error]:

The language of the resolution reads: "to restore international peace and security in the area."

Is not the UN a peacekeeping body. Why then would it allow the use of force unless explicitly stating that force is necessary? Is not a ceasefire understood to mean just that, a halt to the use of force, indiscriminate killing?

jlallen, how many non-British/non-US legal experts can you find who'll claim the "No Fly Zones" in Iraq are legal? And is it not interesting that those who argue "No-Fly Zones" are legal cite resolutions that three members of the Security Council--France, Russia and Chiha--do not regard as valid.

And you can't argue the "No Fly Zones" are legal in order to protect the Northern Kurds and Southern Shiites since those groups were denied military assistance in 1991, when their attempted Saddam overthrow got mightily crushed.

So, jlallen, say no to no fly zones, will ya?
