re: "Too bad not many other industries have figured it out."
They will...they will...but all in due course. As I like to say from time to time: STAY TUNED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I suspect that you will.
From what I have learned, AMD's 64bit devices are so far superior to the anything X86 that inteL has that any championing (as you did) of AMD technology in the future will be far more of a "down hill coast" than the uphill "good fight" that you endured.
To be sure, inteL's merceDthurteeN is a far superior technology for a narrow family of applications that are written specifically for it; however, the best, though admittedly imperfect, analogy that I can offer is the Motorola 68000 series vs inteL's X86 offerings of yesteryear. The 68000 was architecturally far superior to X86 (or whatever they called it back then); but almost all the applications were already written for the inteL architecture. Does any of this sound familiar? It should and it really did happen. Apple, as you probably well know, adopted the Motorola architecture and a highly devoted tight cadre of followers developed and correctly swore that the Apple technology was superior for their applications. The rest, as they say, is history.
inteL's plan has been, with a architectural technology for the next decade, bludgeon the industry into adopting the merceditaniC as the new standard. And, it would have worked had AMD gone out business as per plan. AND, it might still work; but, so far, it seems to get less likely with each new significant event.
I hope that you own and will continue to hold AMD stock. If it goes up, as I suspect that it will, you, more than most, have earned the appreciation that the stock may enjoy.
I wish us both the best of luck.
