Currency reform is one of the most tools which Karzai and the new Afghan government can utilize to bring intransigent warlords under their control. All of the money these guys have been issuing is effectively now worthless, except within their own communities where a particular warlord can enforce his own currency policy.. But they will need to transition to the new Afghani if they want to conduct trade with other parts of the country or be able to exchange into other currencies.. Slowly the foundation for economic rebuilding in the country is being laid.. Hawk
