<<The situation in China looks too good to be true, with so many mainstream western journalists fawning over the development there.>>

Looking through my passport at the dozens of visits and adding up the months I spent in China over the last five years and thinking about the hundreds of people I met from companies and government departments, what strikes me as strange is the opposite of your statement. I have seen changes that I did not think possible in China, and change at a pace I did not think possible anywhere on earth. Where Japan gets an F minus for managing change, China gets at least a B+ and for the pace of change gets a straight A. And I have seen that most people in the US have not begun to grasp the extent of the change, nor the scale implications of making those changes in the most populous country in the world. For the most part these changes are not reflected by our journalists -- and by the way, it is YOU who rely on journalists -- not me.
