Even Bush tried to distance himself from Simon. The national republican committee has to be looking at california and wondering what to do about the mess. It used to be a republican presidential victory was likely from California. No more. Now all of California's electoral votes have to be made up in florida and michigan if a republican wants to win the WH. Of course Bush is doing nothing to improve the situation.
