Kurt, "just around the corner" will give some people the
impression that they'll be able to get an ASDL line in
their home at the end of the year or so. To put things
into perspective, MSF only recently introduced DSL lines -
not all that fast, not all that cheap, and for businesses
only. True, ASDL - together with cable access -
promises to be the solution for the bandwith problem,
but I don't think one should expect consumer ASDL
access to become widely available in the coming few, say
two, years - the backbone capacity to handle the increased
traffic simply isn't there yet.
Other problems are new telecom equipment close to the
consumer, ASDL modems and also, distance limitations.
Of course, this subject belongs more on the WCOM
thread -which I think will be the main beneficiary of
the bandwidth trend- than on the Corel thread...
