I agree that my ideas are a big part of who I am, but I disagree that my joy in seeing my ideas propagated is a selfish joy. It's a joy that is extended into the wellbeing of humanity on earth. My children are tolerant, hard working, and above all loving. I get the benefit of the latter, so if you want to call it selfish go ahead. However, the closest one is 1200 miles away, and the rest of the world is benefiting from their values--values that they might have got in some small measure from me.
Here's a good my best proof: My father was a southern boy, but he raised me in Montana. He was a southern gentleman, and was cited in word and print as such. He never once said the N word to me, nor did he ever teach me racism. On the contrary, he allowed me to go camping and stay over night with my black friend, and treated him as an equal.
Contrast that to the values being fostered by Osama bin Laden to his offspring and his followers. It's hatred, pure and simple. Don't tell me that doesn't affect the world beyond his miserable existence. |
